2022年9月，长寿区人民医院呼吸与危重症医学科收治了2例胸腔积液患者，经胸水常规和胸水脱落细胞检查无法确诊，分别于9月5日和8日行内科胸腔镜检查，病理均报告恶性胸膜间皮瘤（上皮样型），从入院到确诊仅仅用时1周，及时明确了两位患者的治疗方向，避免延误患者治疗。

相比于需要在全麻下进行的外科胸腔镜，内科胸腔镜一般在患者清醒状态下局麻后操作，创伤更小、风险和费用更低，绝大部分患者可以耐受。随着内科胸腔镜在临床工作中的广泛开展，除了在诊断方面发挥重要作用外，在早期包裹性脓胸、肿瘤胸膜固定术、难治性气胸胸膜固定等治疗方面也发挥着巨大优势。
